Book Review: Unbroken by Indrani Mukerjea
Unbroken by Indrani Mukerjea, tells the story of her life from her perspective. This is a heartbreaking book. You will find all the details about her personal and professional life.
The book also reveals the dark side of her life. She very clearly wrote about the fathers of her three children Sheena, Mekhail, and Vidhie. It requires a great gut to do it. Only a woman with strong mental strength can do it.
It was shocking to learn that Peter Mukerjea, her then-husband who was with her for thirteen years left her within a day of her arrest. The way he left her when she needed him the most in tough times is something very bizarre from her husband’s side.
The way people portrayed her on social media and news channels is very unethical. We can’t prove anybody a murderer before the judicial system.
This book describes her story right from her childhood in Guwahati, her college days in Kolkata, her time in Mumbai, and her days in Byculla jail. She talked her heart out in her memoir by sharing some of the darkest secrets of her life with the world.
She also mentioned everything about her first love Vish Chaudhuri, her partner Siddharth Das, her first husband Sanjeev Khanna, and Peter Mukerjea.
Although the book keeps on jumping between the past and present, nothing seems confusing. The book was written in easy language and flowed at a good pace. I never get bored while reading this book. The story of Indrani Mukerjea’s life is no less than a roller-coaster ride. She fought many battles in her life single-handedly and this requires great courage to do it.
After reading this book I learned about the real Indrani Mukerjea, who is always a go-getter in life and stays strong in tough times.
I very well know that every coin has two sides. Honestly, I really felt motivated after reading the memoir of Indrani Mukerjea. I believe everyone should learn from her life. We all make mistakes and I believe she also made a few mistakes in her life which she accepted and moved ahead in life. This is my takeaway from her memoir.
If you love reading memoirs then I will highly recommend you to read Unbroken by Indrani Mukerjea.
