Book Review: The Doctor’s Wife by Daniel Hurst

The Doctor’s Wife by Daniel Hurst mainly revolves around a doctor who cheats his wife by keeping a beautiful mistress outside of marriage. When the wife discovers about his husband’s affair she tries for a while to bring his husband back on the right path.

When she failed to end the affair, anger prevailed inside her, and decided to take revenge on her cheating husband. The story was told from the point of view of both the male and female protagonists.

Fern, the female protagonist of the book, is a city girl who finds peace in the hustle and bustle of the city. When her husband told her about shifting to some remote village to find some peace, she agreed only to make him happy. Although she knew he was hiding something from her. She agreed because she knew about his dirty secret.

Doctor Drew Delvin is a male protagonist of the story who loves to control things around him and always comes out clean hiding his dirty secrets. He looks more like a decent man from the outside but inside he is a dirty man who cheated on his wife with another woman. He is not guilty about it.

Both male and female protagonists are portrayed as negative characters. Initially, my sympathies were with Fern but with time I felt that both are giving tough competition to each other.

Alice is the mistress of Drew. They were head over heels in love with each other and didn’t hesitate to cheat their partners. Although Drew seems like a bad man his love for Alice seems true. The only problem was they kept their morals and their respective partner’s emotions aside.

The book begins from the end and slowly the event from the past unfolds keeping the reader on the edge. The flow of the story is very smooth, intriguing, and unpredictable. The author has used simple English to write this absolutely gripping psychological thriller.

I love the cover and title of the book. Each chapter ends with some suspense. That will force the reader to binge-read this unputdownable psychological thriller. Now, I am super excited to read The Doctor’s Widow, the second one in the series.

If you love reading psychological crime thrillers then I will highly recommend you to read The Doctor’s Wife by Daniel Hurst.
