Book Review: Ibnebatuti by Divya Prakash Dubey

Ibnebatuti by Divya Prakash Dubey is an inspirational, emotional, and modern-day mirror of a woman’s life who lost the charm of life after she got separated from her first love. The author has wonderfully covered the thoughts and emotions of new-age modern society. This new Indian society follows the old emotion and love but is bold enough to make strong decisions by breaking old beliefs and norms.

The author had nicely created the characters of the story which very closely resonates with real humans of Indian society living in northern India.

Shallu Avasthi is a strong mother who knows how to hide her emotions and problems from her son. The character of Shallu evolved in the story from a 20-year-old irresponsible girl to a doting mother. She is smart, intelligent, and knows how to tackle the wrong people. She keeps a happy demeanor outside but inside she is a lonely woman who is hiding her emotions from his son and the world.

Raghav is a 20-year-old son of Shallu who was on moon nine when he got admission to one of the best universities to study data science. On one side he was happy for himself but on the other side, he didn’t want to leave his mother alone. He was worried about her.

I love the bonding between Raghav and his girlfriend Nisha. They understand each other and always fight together in tough times.

The cover of the book Ibnebatuti by Divya Prakash Dubey is interesting and attractive just like its title. It is the title of the book that attracted my attention. I was thinking about the meaning of ‘Ibnebatuti’ and turned to Google to get my answers.

I got my answer once I started reading a book. The title of the book is the name given by a 20-year-old boy Kumar Alok to his 20-year-old girlfriend who loves to talk endlessly.

The tense situation during the 1990 anti-reservation movement was well covered and the way innocent young students suffered was heartbreaking. The author shared the reality of sexual harassment faced by single-widow women in government offices.

Sometimes they are falsely assumed as characterless when they try to take the first step to restart their colourless life. The author also throws light on the demons of the caste system that emotionally harm and destroy the lives of young innocent people.

The author had wonderfully explained the mother-son relationship. I love the bonding between Shalu and Raghav.

The vocabulary used by the author while writing this story is unique and it has a Lucknowii touch. Each house has its own set of unique vocabulary, only family members know their real meanings. No other person can guess the real meaning and emotions behind those words.

This book is a journey of a son understanding his mother which most of us neglect till the situation forces us to do. If you love reading Hindi novels then I will highly recommend you to read Ibnebatuti by Divya Prakash Dubey.
