Book Review: I Can’t Help: Falling in Love with You by Shazia Akhter

I can’t help falling in love with you by Shazia Akhter begins with a forced marriage, followed by romance and separation, and ends with happily ever after. The author has described the romance between the newly married couple in the most decent manner by skillfully avoiding steamy scenes while writing this amazing love story.

The author has very well explained the situation of every middle-class girl in India through the character of Almas. The character of the female protagonist seems real and her struggles give the glimpse of most girls born in a middle-class family in India.

I loved the character of Almas. She lost her father when she was just two and always dreamed of buying a house for her mother. She started working after passing her tenth exams and secured a job after completing her graduation. She also joined a post-graduate course. She was working hard and saving money. Her dreams were shattered when she was forced to marry Ahad Shirazi, the most eligible bachelor in town by her family.

Ahad Shirazi who seemed like a monster but was a sweetheart. He loves and respects people around her. He is also a hard-working businessman who grabs so much female attention. The way he respects and follows his father’s wishes and loves his family is very heartwarming.

Asma and Amir Shirazi seem like the sweetest inlaws in the world who supported Almas and always made good decisions in her favor.

The book started well and I love the flow of the story. There were lots of ups and downs and a hidden psychopath created lots of problems in the life of Almas and Ahad. Somewhere towards the end, I found this story a bit filmy. The climax was good but a few things remained unexplained by the author.

Like how Ahad reaches a distant village and why her aunt hid the truth from his family for a long time.

The title of the book is good and goes with the storyline. The cover of the book was okay and I wish it could be more attractive.

I can’t help falling in love with you by Shazia Akhter is a story of Almas’s courage and persistence to bring a positive change in her life. The author has used a few Hindi and Urdu words while writing this beautiful story of Almas and Ahad. The story is written in simple English and is devoid of adult content.

Overall it is an interesting story set in a muslim background with some suspense element that keeps the reader glued to the story. If you love reading contemporary romance then I will highly recommend you to read I can’t help falling in love with you by Shazia Akhter.
