Book Review: Neena Aunty by Anukrti Upadhyay
I came across this book when I was searching for my next book on Kindle Unlimited. I sometimes love reading fictional books in the regional language. Because I feel they connect with me in a better way. When I came across this book after looking at the title, I thought it must be about some fat, witty, and gossip-loving Neena Aunty.
But after reading the reviews on Amazon I found this book interesting and immediately downloaded it on my Kindle device.
In the book Neena Aunty by Anukrti Upadhyay, Neena Aunty is the main protagonist of the book. She is a rebellious woman who refuses to follow societal norms and live her life for her dreams.
She doesn’t come under people’s pressure. She is a good-hearted person who loved everyone and helped them when they approached her.
She never gets disturbed by other people’s comments and remains stable in every situation. She follows her heart and lives for her dreams. She is an intelligent and educated woman who fights hard for her dreams and goals.
Being a woman living in the traditional city of Jaipur she faces many hard times in life. Yet, she remains calm in every situation and faces it bravely.
Many times, in life her parents and siblings throw her out of their house and life. Somehow, she stayed strong in those times. Her success and calmness forced them to accept her again and again in their life. Although her own siblings don’t like her much, but she is the favorite aunt of their kids. Whenever the young generation faces some trouble in their lives they run to Neena for suggestions.
The book is written in simple language, flows smoothly, and shares the thoughts of three generations. The writing of the book is conversational. Sudeepa tries to unveil the real Neena Aunty through conversations with family and her own reminiscences from childhood.
The book throws light on some of the age-old questions.
Why is a woman who refuses to follow societal traditions considered trouble?
Why is a single independent woman considered a bad influence?
If you like reading fictional books in Hindi pick up Neena Aunty by Anukrti Upadhyay. I promise you will never regret reading it.
