Book Review of Reminders of him by Colleen Hoover

Reminders of him will appeal to people who love a strong heroine and amazing character.  Kenna Rowan steals the show ‌as she has gone through so much, and continuously rejected, but never gave up. She is a powerful heroine who is calm and compassionate at the same time.

Kenna is a girl who grew up without her mother’s love but found it in Scotty her boyfriend. Unfortunately, her time with Scotty was very short due to the tragic accident.

She paid the price by serving five years in jail and losing her daughter. After her release from ‌prison, she moved back to town where her daughter was living with Scotty’s parents. Although she has no parental rights, she left no stone unturned to see her daughter.

She runs into Scotty’s best friend Ledger, who had never seen her.

I love the turbulence that Ledger goes through as he likes and hates her at the same time after knowing about her past.

It can’t be easy for him to lose his childhood best friend and see his parents suffer every day. Since he lives opposite Scotty’s parents on the same street, he was very close to Diem and his relationship with her was very beautiful.

At the same time, I feel very compassionate toward Patrick and Grace. I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose a perfect son. What a blessing to have a grandchild, a reminder of your perfect son. Suddenly, now her mother reappears in her life.

Colleen Hoover does a great job while writing each character. I almost feel each one of their emotions.

The best part of “Reminders of him” is seeing Kenna’s honesty and strength toward her daughter whom she never met.

To show the real Kenna author Colleen Hoover used letters that she wrote to Scotty every day. These letters help us understand the past, as well as her way to self-forgiveness and her emotions that allow her to understand all those affected by Scotty’s fatal accident.

My overall impression of this book is positive. I found the plotline to be romantic and believable. The relationships and emotions seem real. The story flows smoothly as expected from an author like Colleen Hoover.

I won’t say this story is predictable, the author managed good suspense till the end.

About the Characters

Diem: She is Kenna’s daughter. She is cute and half a copy of Kenna and half of Scotty.
