Samar, the main protagonist of the story, is the main victim in the story. His parents forced their dreams on him without understanding what he wanted from life. They keep on forcing a small child to follow them without understanding him.
Samar grew into a sad and depressed person who was dying inside every day.
The characters developed by the author are amazing. I feel connected with many characters and they keep me hooked till the end.
I love the character of Ranjit Rao. He is Samay’s friend at work. He helped Samay a lot to cope during his bad times because of his sense of humor. I believe every introvert should have an extrovert friend like him.
The character of Khushi and her love for life won my heart. The way she dedicated her full life to helping other people around her motivated me to do the same.
The author throws light on old parenting techniques, comparisons, societal pressure, and the way death affects a person’s mental health.
Every time parents are not right and old parenting techniques don’t work in the current scenario. The author Smitha Kulkarni throws light on job hunting, expectations from parents, and comparisons are some of the mental health evils that still exist in society in current times through this story. I felt very much connected with Samay and my full sympathy was with him.

Samay Raghuveer Pant is living in Rishikesh with his parents Kusum Pant and Raghuveer Pant. Raghuveer Pant is doing a government job in the tourism department. Samay’s parents are typical Indian parents who believe studying and doing a job is the best career option.
They are always forcing Samay to concentrate on his studies and never try to understand what he wants from life. Because of his parent’s rigid behavior, Samay doesn’t feel any connection with them. Unknowingly he started hating them.
Samay was very close to Sindhu daadi. She loves him unconditionally and is a good human by heart. She is the only person in the world who cares about him and supports his dream. He hardly had any good friends in school. Khushi is her only good friend at school.
Unfortunately, Sindhu daadi died when Samay was around twelve years old. The death of the dearest person in the world has broken Samay inside out.
After that each day Samay was breaking and moving away from his parents. Somehow he managed to fulfil his parents’ dreams and started working in Bengaluru. But after some time, Khushi also died in an accident. Her death had thrown Samay into a depression and he cut all his relations with his parents.
