Book Review: The Homecoming by Preeti Shenoy
The Homecoming by Preeti Shenoy is a sequel to the book A Place Called Home. Although you can read it as a standalone, I suggest you read the first part before starting with this one.
The cover is beautiful and fits the plot of the story very well. The title completely complements the story’s flow. All 29 chapters have bewitching titles, and each ends with suspense or confusion, making the story fascinating. The book is written in simple language making it suitable for all age groups.
The characters of the book The Homecoming are well-crafted, especially the female protagonist Alka.
Alka is the main protagonist of the story who comes from a humble background. She is a strong female protagonist of the story who unveils the dilemma of modern women. The way she grows from a simple housewife and mother to a woman who started running a coffee estate is very inspiring. The best part of her character is that she never shies away from taking help.
Subbu is Alka’s husband who seems like a rigid man and follows old beliefs both professionally and personally. Somewhere he seems like an antagonist of the story who doesn’t want to change with time. But there are more layers to his character. Some of them were shredded as the story progressed. But I feel there is more that’s why now I am eagerly waiting for the next part.
Krish is Alka’s brother-in-law. They had known each other since their college days and were in a serious relationship for a long time. The character of Krish brings safety and peace to Alka’s life. Their bonding proves that love is above all relationships.
I love the way Gowri and Manasi guide Alka in tough times. Renuka Mavashi’s character adds wisdom to the story and proves that sometimes life experiences teach more than education. Nisha, Tulika, and Gaurav’s characters bring energy and innocent love to the story.
Details were very well described by the author Preeti Shenoy, and I too got transported to a heritage bungalow situated inside a tea estate while reading this book. The coffee estate seems beautiful and charming from the outside but a lot of hard work is required to run it.
I love the relationship between Alka and Krish. Every time they come together; they feel that old nostalgia. The way Alka and Krish stand together for Subbu proves that love is above all worldly relationships.
The story is fast-paced and flows smoothly, moving around female protagonists. As the story progresses, buried secrets slowly start coming to light, making the story intriguing and the book unputdownable.
From Preeti Shenoy’s book The Homecoming, I learned to stay strong and consistent in tough situations and never shy away from asking for help.
This book is about love, friendship, pain, and self-discovery. If you love reading fiction books, then I will highly recommend reading The Homecoming by Preeti Shenoy.
