Book Review of A Piece of Heaven by Shivani A Singh

This girl foreshadows terrible bad luck. See how she has eaten goats and her own mother?”

A Piece of Heaven by Shivani A Singh is the story of Aloka who never gets love from her father and her stepmother ill-treated her. But, when Aloka was brought to Delhi by Amrita, she handled very well the new life that was given to her by her mother’s best friend.

She never forgot her roots and stood by her real family in happiness and sorrow. Aloka could have taken revenge on her stepmother and become a spoilt daughter of her adoptive parents.

But she was a likable and conflicting protagonist of a book.

When it comes to Abeer I feel like anyone can love and hate him at the same time. Abeer and Aloka are opposites of each other but the way the author adds emotional and romantic spices to the story is mind-blowing.

The story flows very smoothly and the author covers all the incidents that took place at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.

She mentioned about Bhopal gas tragedy and the way people suffered physically and emotionally at that time. She cited the entry of computers into the Indian market during those times and the beginning of the year 2000 (Y2K).

She covered the lives of rich Delhiites during those times. There is a lot of family drama, insight into the life of rich Delhiites, a girl growing into a rich family, and a lot more made this story very interesting.

This is a story of age-gap romance and the author has served it well to the reader by adding emotions and drama to it. A Piece of Heaven by Shivani A Singh is a well-crafted book that will keep you hooked till the end.

About the Author

Shivani A Singh grew up in Bhopal and is currently living with her husband and child in Rajasthan. Shivani has been an avid reader since her childhood. She had a master’s degree in anthropology and a diploma in interior design.

She has written three books. Her first book failed to win the reader’s heart. But her second book made for each other won the reader’s attention and heart. Her second and third books are historical romances starting in the 1980s.

About the Characters

Aloka is the main protagonist in the book A Piece of Heaven by Shivani A Singh. She was tortured by stepmother during childhood. She never received any love or care from her real parents. Despite, all the ups and downs in life she somehow manages herself mentally, emotionally, and financially when life throws lemons at her.

Abeer is a dashing and rough character who has managed to control his emotions. He is a man whom every girl dreams of being with. Abeer is one person who seems like a hero and a villain at the same time.

My Learnings

The author has thrown light on the mental health issues of children. I learned a lot about the importance of parenting from this story. My three learnings are

  • Parents should always take care of the mental health of children.
  • Parents should always make the right decisions in the favor of their children without worrying about society’s reaction.
  • Parents should stand with their children in tough times by keeping their selfish motives aside.

Book Summary of A Piece of Heaven by Shivani A Singh

A Piece of Heaven by Shivani A Singh describes Aloka as the sixth daughter of the headmaster born out of his second marriage with Kishori. Her mother died on the night she was born.

Her stepmother hates her and left no stone unturned in harassing and beating her. Her father Sita-Ram never took any stand to protect her from Suniti.

When Aloka was around ten years her mother’s best friend Amrita came and took her to Delhi with her.

In Delhi, Amrita was living with her husband Shekhar, and two sons Abeer and Gautam. Aloka was suddenly thrown into a world of wealth and luxury where everyone loved and cared for her.

She started growing up with Amrita and Shekhar like their daughter. They took great care of her and guided her. Aloka grew up and became an architect who loves designing houses.

Amrita is a loving and caring mother but sometimes she cares more about society, reputation, and status than her own children.

With the love and support of Amrita’s family, Aloka grew up into an educated and loving person. Everyone around loves and takes care of her.

But, on this new journey, her relationship changed with Amrita’s elder son Abeer. He always guided and protected her from the world.

How will he protect her from himself?

How will Amrita react when she comes to know about Aloka and Abeer’s relationship?

Will Aloka and Abeer ever gather the courage to tell the world about their relationship?

To know more about Aloka and Abeer read this very interesting book A Piece of Heaven by Shivani Singh.
