Dehaati Ladke by Shashank Bharatiya is a story of a countryside boy who moves from a village to a big city for higher studies. The book tells the tale of every Indian boy or girl who moves to the metropolitans to make their future and career bright.
Rajrajat Chauhan is the main protagonist of the story. Rajat is a normal village boy who comes to Lucknow for higher studies. Although he hails from a village he finds it difficult to adjust to the city life. He tries to learn the etiquette of city life that most youngsters like him follow to impress the opposite sex. Although he tries hard to adjust to city life, in his heart, it does not come easily.
He made two amazing friends in Lucknow. The handsome hunk Yuvan and bodybuilder Shanshank. Three of them are the opposite. When it comes to love he always goes to Yuvan for advice as he has many girlfriends. Shashank is just like him and his struggles are no different from Rajat but their sense of humor matches each other.
The author has also mentioned the emotional attachment and pressure of likes on social media that most youngsters feel during their college years. He also talked about the career pressure that boys like Rajat feel once they move out from their village.
Prashant Bhaiya is a silent character in the story who always motivates Rajat and he always looks upon him.
Characters like Chayaji exist in every college. They make friends with boys during their college years and once college is over they break the heart of their boyfriend and marry a person selected by their parents.
The story flows smoothly in the beginning. But in the middle, I felt that a few chapters were over-stressed and I got bored. The author has used local language in writing some dialogue that will be difficult to understand for some readers.
Otherwise, it is a good book that will take you back to your college days. Most of the characters in the book seem real. We all have come across some of these personalities during our college years.
I enjoyed reading Dehaati Ladke by Shashank Bharatiya and highly recommend reading it once to all Hindi fiction lovers.

देहाती लड़के शशांक भारतीय द्वारा लिखित एक बहुत ही दिलचस्प उपन्यास हैं. राज रजत चौहान अपनी स्कूल की पढ़ाई पूरी कर उच्च शिक्षा के लिए लखनऊ में आता हैं. वह अपने देसीपन को छोड़कर शहर के तरीकों को अपनाने की कोशिश करता हैं.
यहाँ उसकी मित्रता युवान, शशांक, और प्रेरणा से होती हैं. वह प्रशांत भईया जो की उसी के गॉव से हैं और उनकी मित्र छायाजी के भी संपर्क में आता हैं. प्रशांत भईया उसे समय-समय पर सही दिशा भी दिखाते हैं.
इस तरह रजत के दिन शहर में सुकून से कटने लगते हैं. लेकिन समय के साथ तीनों दोस्तों में कुछ गलतफेहमी हो जाती हैं. वे सभी अपना रास्ता बदल लेते हैं.
रजत और प्रेरणा का रिश्ता भी टूट जाता हैं. रजत आज आयकर विभाग में अफसर हैं. अचानक उसकी दिल्ली वाली दोस्त दिशा घायल का फ़ोन आने पर उसे सारी पुरानीं बाते याद आने लगाती हैं.
