Book Review: The Ex-Factor by Harini Shrinivasan

The Ex-Factor by Harini Shrinivasan is all about messed-up relationships, mixed sentiments, and a whole lot of laughter and entertainment. This book is a journey of Oindrilla who is puzzled, grumpy and all messed up. She first acts and then thinks. She is not a social person and hates talking with people around her.

The character of Oinks is interesting and seems real. She is confused, messed up, and surrounded by troubles. The way her mother hardly trusts her is something very common in most Indian households. Most people keep comparing their children with their relative’s children, which seems very relatable.

I find the relationship between Oindrilla and her mother funny. I know her mother loves her a lot but due to her past track record, she finds it difficult to trust her only daughter.

Oindrilla’s mother Meeta never left any stone unturned to blame her for everything that goes wrong in their life. I think only because of her mother Oink is a workaholic and takes responsibility for near and dear ones.

Just like Oindrilla’s parents most of our parents love us but they fail to show us. We can find their love and care in their yellings and worries.

The author has wonderfully framed all the characters in the book that seem real. Oindrilla’s boss Rahul is one character that I found very funny and irritating both at the time.

Her ex-boyfriend Vivek seems good and concerned about Oindrilla. I love the amazing chemistry between the two of them. Vivek’s maturity brings some sense into the confused and messed up Oindrilla and helps her to take wise decisions to solve the ongoing problems in her personal life.

He not only helped her to stand straight and face the situation but also showed her the path of self-discovery where a real Oindrilla Roy shines out at the end.

The author has wonderfully explained the office environment. At times people we find bitchy turn out to be good. The author wonderfully covered the vibe of Delhi, Kolkata, and Shillong as the story moves from one city to another. The author has also thrown light on the sentiments of the LGBTQ community.

The book flows nicely and keeps you entertained with fun and change in situations now and then. I love everything about The Ex-Factor by Harini Shrinivasan. I wish the author had given a few more details about how Oinks and Vivek break up. This is something I find missing in the book.

Otherwise, this book is full of drama and entertainment and will be a great option to read on a vacation. If you love reading contemporary romance novels then I will highly recommend you to read The Ex-Factor by Harini Shrinivasan.

Book Summary: The Ex-Factor by Harini Shrinivasan

Oindrilla Roy, called Oinks by her friends, is a 25 years old working professional living with her parents and two dogs in Delhi. She is having a bad week at home as the maid followed by the cook ran away. Now, she has to help her mother at home and deal with the unending demands of her boss Rahul Dewan at the office.

After dealing with a mess at home, when she reached the office her boss had already decided to send her on a three-week work trip to Shillong. When she received this news from her boss, she thought maybe going to Shillong would help her to relax a bit.

In the evening her bestie Sweety Chopra spills the news of her having an affair with Divya. Oink got more upset as she hates Divya.

When at home she declared about her work trip to Shillong, her mother got excited and decided she will come to drop her to Shillong, and in between they will visit Kolkata.

When they took the flight to Kolkata, she was again shocked to discover that her ex-boyfriend Vivek was sitting next to her mother.

After reaching Kolkata she finds her cousin Ankita in some trouble. When she reached Ankita for more details in a restaurant, she again bumped into Vivek. After reaching Shillong she again found Vivek in the same hotel and was also going to work with her on the same project.

This is not the end, her best friend Rajat at work suddenly started liking her. Back home Ankita went missing and her mother thinks Oindrilla is the main culprit.

Did Oindrilla get any success in convincing her mother?
