Book Review: The Henna Start-Up by Andaleeb Wajid

The Henna Start-Up by Andaleeb Wajid revolves around a girl who has a big plan for her career and her parents have big plans for her marriage soon after her graduation. After reading This Means Love by Andaleeb Wajid I was eagerly waiting for her next book. When I received this book, I was super excited to read it. Trust me this too is mind-blowing.

The main theme of the story is that a girl who is forbidden to think about money and career dreams high and works hard consistently to achieve them. The best part is despite the difference of opinion between Abir and her family, their love remains intact which brings them together for the betterment of the future.

The wonderfully crafted characters make it a fun read. Abir is a seventeen-year-old female protagonist born in a lower-middle-class family in the story. She had a plan for the next five, ten, fifteen, and twenty years.

Although she was born in a conservative family where people started nagging girls to get married as soon as possible. She never gives a damn about the thinking of others and is busy planning her future.

I love the bond between Abir and her fourteen-year-old sister Amal. The bunters between Abir and Arsalan are fun and heartwarming.

The way she takes the support of her best friend Keerthi by sharing her every problem and the mind-blowing solutions they come up with are entertaining.

The author had wonderfully written down the emotions of Abir. I was feeling her irritation and anger towards Arslan while reading this amazing story.

I love the cover and title of the book The Henna Start-Up by Andaleeb Wajid which completely matches the flow of the story. The twists and turns every now and then kept me hooked on the story. Although I don’t want to spill the beans, I enjoyed reading the climax of the story. It’s just mind-blowing, inspiring, and the need of the time.

The author has also thrown light on social issues that most girls still face in many communities in Indian society. The way their parents have to face humiliation when they reject the best boy in the community for marriage. No profession is small or big, even a henna artist can bring a smile and joy to the face of a bride with her stunning artistic work.

The financial status of the person also shapes their thinking about the world and their friendship is the main point covered by the author while writing this story.

Overall, it’s a great story that covers many social issues and the fearless protagonist makes it an inspirational and entertaining read. If you love reading enemy-to-lovers fiction books then I will highly recommend you to read The Henna Start-Up by Andaleeb Wajid.
