Book Review: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden is a psychological thriller that will keep you entertained because of its well-drawn plot and suspense element that keeps the story flowing at a good pace.

Through this story, the author has thrown light on a psychopath who lives in our society by masking their real personality. They easily hide their identity and it becomes tough for normal people to identify the evil hidden behind their innocent personality.

The cover of the book is very attractive and is just perfect to attract the reader’s attention. The author has wonderfully created all the characters in the book.

Millie whose real name is Welhelmina Calloway is a beautiful girl in her late thirties who was out on parole. Although people around her consider her criminal and useless, in reality, she is a good-hearted girl. She does her work wholeheartedly and helps people around her.

Nina Winchester is a rude, shabby, and sad woman who hates Millie. She always made the house dirty and made things difficult for her housemaid. People behind her back talk about her bad mental health and make fun of her.

Andrew Winchester is a handsome, rich, and loving husband of Nina. He loves his wife and daughter unconditionally and is the only well-behaved person in the house. He seems like a man who is too good to be real.

The author had wonderfully added layers to all the characters. Slowly, each character gets unlayered as the story progresses till the end. The author has used very simple language and yet managed to keep the suspense hidden till the end.

The book is well-edited and is a great read for suspense and thriller books fans. The theme of the book is domestic abuse, victimhood, discipline, and the power of manipulation. This book has some disturbing content and is a strict no-no for a person with a soft heart.

Twisted character, dark past, and well-crafted suspense makes this book unputdownable for suspense and thriller lovers.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one and can’t wait to start The Housemaid’s Secret, the second one in the series. If you love reading contemporary psychopath thrillers then I will highly recommend you to read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden.

Book Summary: The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Millie was out on her parole, living in her car, and was in desperate need of a job. She was more than happy when she got a job as a housemaid for Winchesters. Initially, things look good from the outside but as she started working, Nina Winchester made her life hell by making the house dirty and misguiding her with everyday tasks.

Her Husband Andrew supports her and tries hard to save her from Nina’s dirty plans. Their nine-year-old daughter Cecelia also behaved badly with Millie. She always throws tantrums only to make her job hard. On top of that, Millie had to live in a small room in the attic that did not have any windows.

Millie is frustrated working for them but she has no other option as nobody is ready to give her a job because of her previous police record. As Andrew keeps helping Millie they both get attracted towards each other.

What will happen when Nina discovers their affair?

Why does Nina behave very badly with Millie?
