Book Review: The Teacher by Freida McFadden

The Teacher by Freida McFadden is a captivating psychological thriller that keeps the reader hooked right from the start till the end. This book throws light on the student-teacher and husband-wife relationship. Through this book, the author highlighted one important point: a person should never cross his or her limit.

Once you cross your limit there are chances that you will break the thin string of trust in your relationship. Sometimes results may be unexpected and it may cost your life. I became a fan of Freida McFadden after reading The Housemaid.

The story is written in three parts and is explained from the point of view of two main protagonists Eve, the teacher, and Addie, the student

Eve’s shopaholic behavior painted her as the culprit in her marriage. She is a mature teacher, apart from her obsession with shoes. She knew her husband Nate was taking advantage of Addie. She forgave her and didn’t take any extreme steps to harm her or tarnish her image in school.

Addie is an emotionally disturbed student. She had committed a serious crime in the past but somehow luckily escaped from the police. Second, she is one of the main culprits in the teacher-student affair scandal. Somehow the second time also came out clean and an honest maths teacher was investigated and forced to resign from his job.

After one year when she came back, she faced lots of bullying from her fellow students. She is trying hard to survive for the sake of her mother.

Nathaniel Bennett seems like a good husband and teacher. He loves his wife, Eve. He kisses her thrice and helps her with dinner every day. He is always patient with her shopaholic wife who is obsessed with shoes. Students adore him and girls at Caseham High are mad for their handsome English teacher.

The author has wonderfully described the school environment. I was personally walking in Caseham High School in my imagination while reading this book. School bullying always harms the student’s self-confidence. This point is well-lighted in the story. The daily life of the teacher is well-covered like bringing home school work every day.

I enjoyed reading poetries written by Nate and Addie. Although I am not much into poetries, I must say they are very good and go with the flow of the story.

The story flows nicely, maintaining the suspense till the end. It was very difficult to predict the real culprit and the climax with the shocking twist in the end is mind-blowing. The book is written in simple English and it’s the title of the book that grabbed my attention.

The title of the story is just perfect and goes with the flow of the book. This is a well-edited book and I didn’t find any double words or other errors while reading this book. I am eagerly waiting for the next part as the story ends with the clue for the next book.

Overall, it’s a must-read for psychological thriller lovers with a good revenge plot. If you love reading suspense thrillers then I will highly recommend you to read The Teacher by Freida McFadden.
