Book Review: Under The Bakula Tree by Prasanna Raghavan

Under The Bakula Tree by Prasanna Raghavan is traumatic and describes the situation of women in modern Indian society. This ebook is based on the theme that women are forced into marriage by their parents without thinking about their happiness. They did not have the right to decide their life partner.

When they want to escape from their disastrous marriage nobody comes to support them. Most parents treat their daughters like their personal property and decide their marriage with the first person they can lay their hands on without doing any background checks.

The story shares the bond between three women Sara, Viji, and Alina. The way they support each other is something that is a ‘need of the time’. The Bakula tree connected them and they felt each other’s emotions.

The author had wonderfully described the natural beauty of the Bakula tree and its connection with lord Krishna

I love the beautiful cover of the book that gives full justice to the title and the flow of the story. The book is written in the simple English language and flows nicely with lots of motivation for women. The author has written this book to explain the situation of women in modern society.

Still, women are not safe and can’t dare to leave their houses all alone in many parts of India. The author has also thrown light on the fact that most women did not receive support from other female family members in tough times.

I like everything about the book but felt that a few things remained unexplained in the end and that was a bit disappointing. I was expecting more details about Sara, Alina, and Viji’s life but the story suddenly came to an end. Otherwise, it’s a good book that beautifully explains sisterhood.

If you love reading short story books that revolve around the life of women then I can recommend you to read Under The Bakula Tree by Prasanna Raghavan.
